This overview is designed to be an overview of all of the systems that encompass the Foundation Source product. It explains the three interconnected platforms that make up the Foundation Source technology ecosystem — what each system does, who uses it, and how they work together to support your foundation clients from onboarding through ongoing grant-making and reporting.
The Three Platforms at a Glance • Enterprise Console — Your organization's command center. Manage your full book of foundation clients from one place. • Impactfully — The foundation-facing operating platform. Where grant-making, expenses, applications, and reporting happen. • Giving Hub — The public-facing grantee portal. Where nonprofits discover opportunities and submit grant applications. |
The Ecosystem — How the Platforms Connect
The three platforms form a layered stack. Enterprise Console sits at the top and provides your advisors with a centralized view across all client foundations. Impactfully sits in the middle and is the operational platform where each foundation runs its day-to-day activity. Giving Hub is the public-facing layer that connects external nonprofits and grantees into the workflow.
Enterprise Console Your advisors & managers log in here to see their full client book and navigate into individual foundation instances. | Impactfully Each foundation's private workspace. Grants, expenses, members, applications, reporting — all managed here. | Giving Hub Public portal for nonprofits to find grant opportunities, apply, and submit outcome reports. |
The connection point between Enterprise Console and Impactfully is a redirect. When an advisor clicks "Manage Client" on a client's record, they are taken directly into that foundation's Impactfully environment — no second login required. All actions they take inside Impactfully are recorded in that foundation's audit trail.
Enterprise Console
Enterprise Console is your organization's management layer above all client foundations. It is designed for advisors, managers, and administrators who oversee a book of private foundation clients — giving them a single, unified view without requiring them to log into each foundation separately.
What You Should Know
- Client Book View: Your full client book is visible from a single dashboard with asset balances, MRD status, and grant activity across all foundations.
- Teams & Permissions: Each foundation is associated with a Team of advisors. Team structure governs who can see and work with which clients.
- Role-Based Access: Four role types — Super User, Manager, Team Member, and IT — each with configurable permissions. Roles control both what your staff can do in Enterprise Console and what they can do inside individual Impactfully instances.
- Reporting: Power BI reports are embedded directly into Enterprise Console, giving your organization aggregate analytics across your client portfolio.
- Audit Trail: An Audit Log records every significant action taken by your staff — who did what, when, across which client.
Key Roles in Enterprise Console
| Role | Scope | What They Can Do |
| Super User | All clients (tenant-wide) | Full access — user management, role configuration, reporting |
| Manager | Team clients only | Manage clients and users within their assigned team |
| Team Member | Team clients only | View clients, access Impactfully via SSO for their team's foundations |
| IT | All clients | Technical administration; limited operational permissions |
Impactfully
Impactfully is the operational platform where each private foundation runs its grant-making, financial tracking, member management, and reporting. It is the primary tool your Relationship Managers and foundation staff will use on a day-to-day basis.
Core Modules
| Module | Purpose |
| Dashboard | Configurable landing page with summary tiles: grant totals, MRD status, recent activity, quick-links |
| Grants | Create, track, and manage charitable disbursements; multi-payment grants; committee approval workflows |
| Applications & Outcomes | Receive and manage inbound grant applications from nonprofits; send and track post-grant outcome reports |
| Expenses | Track non-grant foundation expenditures (admin costs, events, reimbursements); committee routing |
| Reports | 38 standard reports + dynamic (custom) reports; subscribable for automatic delivery |
| Finances | Real-time asset balances, funding history, transactions in process |
| Contacts | Unified address book for members, grantees, advisors, and donors |
| Administration | Member permissions, committees, foundation preferences, notification settings, audit trail |
| Documents | File storage for foundation documents, organized by folder |
| Charities | IRS-verified charity search; mark favorites; request additional vetting |
Key Concepts for Directors
- Members: Members are individuals with login access to a foundation’s Impactfully instance.
- Committees & Governance: Committees can be configured to require approval before a grant or expense is processed — enabling governance controls appropriate for your clients' needs.
- MRD (Minimum Required Distribution): The Minimum Required Distribution (MRD) is the 5% annual charitable distribution requirement for private foundations. Impactfully tracks qualifying distributions and MRD status; Enterprise Console surfaces this data at the portfolio level.
- Impact Plans: Impact Plans allow foundations to set charitable goals with planned giving amounts across fiscal years, tracking progress against those targets.
- Report Codes: Report Codes are classification tags applied to grants and expenses, enabling categorized reporting and filtering. Up to three levels of hierarchy.
Giving Hub
Giving Hub is the public-facing grantee portal operated by Foundation Source. It is the counterpart to Impactfully's Applications & Outcomes module — foundation staff configure grant application forms in Impactfully, and nonprofits complete those forms through Giving Hub.
How It Works
- Foundation-Branded Pages: Each foundation that uses the Applications module in Impactfully can publish a branded public landing page at givinghub.foundationsource.com.
- Grantee Self-Service: Nonprofits register on Giving Hub, complete applications, and track the status of their funding requests — all without needing access to Impactfully.
- Eligibility Screening: An optional eligibility quiz can screen applicants before they reach the full application form, reducing staff review burden.
- Outcome Reporting: After a grant is made, the foundation can attach an Outcome Form requirement. The grantee completes this through Giving Hub as post-grant reporting.
- Multi-User Organizations: Multi-user organizations can have multiple staff members under one Giving Hub account, with role-based access managed by an Org Admin.
What You Should Monitor • MRD status across your client portfolio — surfaced on the Enterprise Console dashboard • Asset balances — updated via investment data file uploads; visible in Enterprise Console and Impactfully • User roles and permissions — ensure your advisors have appropriate access levels in both Enterprise Console and Impactfully • Audit logs — available in both Enterprise Console (enterprise-level actions) and Impactfully (foundation-level actions) • Application pipeline — volume and status of inbound grant applications per client foundation
